Hello Sun!!!

on December 10, 2016

Hello Sun!!!

It's sunny! La la la la laaa. How lovely! The boys are over their 3456 flus, coughs and colds, and I'm enjoying some drawing outside in the gorgeous spring weather. Mind you, living in Melbourne, it could be hailing or possibly snowing tomorrow. One friend commented at school pick up yesterday 'In Sri Lanka, we never talk about the weather like you guys do; it's always the same, so why talk about it?' Novel concept! She'll learn fast! In Melbourne, you must either a) know how to talk about weather, or b) know how to talk about football, or c)...

Long time no write!

Long time no write!

There comes a point in everyone's life when you just have to throw your hands up in the air, give up and go to bed. That, or move to Queensland. (Don't tempt me, Frodo!) The boys are FINALLY both back at school, and I'm praying (pleading and begging) that they're both healthy for the rest of the year. Mummy was starting to go out of her mind with sick kiddies/husband/self. Now it's just me fighting of the remnants of the green slime flu bug. Just watch; I'll finally get over it, and then it will be time for Hayfever season!!!!!...

Cough, Cough, Cough (and repeat)

Cough, Cough, Cough (and repeat)

Poor Spencer has had one flu after another cold after another flu, and of course, brings it home and passes it around the family. The endless coughing has driven us mad. As I write, all four of us have coughs and headaches. Duncan's flapped off to goodness knows where. I, of course, must stay home, and get through each day as best as possible with hacking coughing, lack of sleep, grumpy people around me. At least Duncan's gone. You've heard of 'Man Flu'? 'Dragon Flu' is much, much worse. I think Spencer is going to get the 'Most often in...

May the Flu be with You

May the Flu be with You

I estimate that having kids causes 80% of your flu and cold levels for the year. And going to the football in Melbourne causes the other 20%. Unfortunately, I can do nothing about either two situations. I can, however, put the enforced 'rest' (yes, all you other mums know how silly that concept is) to good use and get some stitching done. The Noah quilt is JUST about to land on this website; I know people have been hanging out for it. I've also managed to finish the design for a new stitchery called 'Australian Afternoon'. It's a cute cheeky...

One step closer to camping

One step closer to camping

The 40th is over! I am now nowhere near the 'young' category. (My husband has had great delight in pointing that out!) I had a lovely time, and was spoilt rotten. It was so much fun just having a chat and laugh with mates, and enjoy a delicious Thai banquet. I got several cheeky comments from people shocked at the sight of me wearing a dress. The pic is me and my mate Wendy, who I also do graphic work with on a part time basis (to keep me in fabric). This month, I have Easter Camping to look forward...

Marching on

Marching on

I'm turning 40 this month! (All presents can be sent via the post; you don't have to worry about getting express service.) And it's not too late for some 'firsts'! I went shopping with my 'bridesmaids' from 14 years ago (yes, it's my wedding anniversary too) on the weekend and in between laughing at me as I tried the various outfits deemed worthy of the big occassion, we managed to buy a dress, heels and jewelry. ($10 for earings- big spender me!) I think it's the first time ever I've bought high heels. Being a tad under 6 foot, they're...

The holiday is over (baby)

The holiday is over (baby)

Hey, if you can't use a Cruel Sea lyric every now and then, life just isn't worth living! We're back from holidays, and boy, did the orders pile up whilst I was away. But it was nice to turn off the computer, lock up the house and actually get OUTDOORS once and awhile. I think my Vitamin D level was minus ten percent before our trip. Now it's back to it's usual 20 percent RDI (Recommended Duncan Intake). We had the classic tent/caravan beach holiday with my Mum, Dad and sister up in Ulladulla NSW, and then us Curtins nipped...

Neglect

Neglect

I have neglected my dragon. He's rather miffed. Apparently it's all very well for Duncan to tootle off on holidays leaving me with oodles of work. However, if he returns with a bajillion things for me to do, and I'm still busy working, that is unforgivable. So apologies to Duncan, and to those of you who are waiting with bated breath for the latest design to be uploaded. (At last estimation, all two of you. Joking. There's probably no-one, but hey, that's just depressing.) I have been busy with a capital B. Doing what? I've been sucked back into the...

Spring Fever

Spring Fever

It might seem like we've been a little quiet the last couple weeks, but really, it's because I've been feverishly busy! Not so much with Duncan's long list of stitching, but other things like family commitments, 'real' graphic design work, orders, house fixing up issues and stuff for my church etc. Phew! I've been doing some extra graphics work for a friend, and oiling those rusty type setting skills from before Duncan arrived on the scene. It's something you don't forget, just get slower at! 'Hmmm... where is that shortcut key again?? Oh that's right.. shift command...' And when all...

August presence required

August presence required

Dear Duncan, Get your fat scaly rump back in the office now! I've just started your latest project, and it's clear you've had waaay too much caffiene. What were you thinking having sashes of three different widths and 6 different colours? Pathetic effort. I've now cleaned it up and made sense of it, but you've wasted at least a week of precious stitching time. Having to redo measurements for a single bed quilt not once, but four times is just not acceptable. Next time you hand in an idea of this difficulty I shall lock you up in a tower...
