Grand Experiment!

Grand Experiment!

It's always good to try something new, right? Until computers get involved and it all goes pear shaped! But if you'd like to participate in a fun little experiment I'm going to try, read on. I'm creating an 2018 Advent stitchery Calendar. Each day in December I'm hoping to upload a new little redwork Christmas stitchery for you to enjoy. You can download all 25, or just the ones that tickle your fancy. (What is your fancy, and why does it enjoy tickling? Hmmm. I best stop wondering out loud now before I get myself into further trouble.) You can find...

When will Winter end?

When will Winter end?

It's Friday afternoon, and I've got half an hour before the kids come home demanding snacks, most of my work is done for the week, and I'm printing out orders. So I thought I'd drop a line and say hello! In the last couple months we had a lovely holiday in Queensland. (The photo is of a great walk we did around Noosa Heads.) We got jealous that their winter was a 'chilly' 19 degrees. In Melbourne, it's usually top of 10, but if you factor in the wind chill, it's minus 500. One good thing about being a quilt designer is that I've...

Slacker extraordinaire!!!

Slacker extraordinaire!!!

It has been forever since I updated my news- pretty much because I've been too busy 'doing', and not taking the time to smell roses, or update websites!  I've really felt that I've been putting Smee on the back burner too much, but when I'm fossicking through all the things on my plate to try and figure out which one I leave to get mouldy and crusty by the side of the sink, there's not much I can leave out at present! SO, here's why I've been such a slack arse: The house reno which took over my world has been done...

Long time no blog

Long time no blog

Well! 2017 was a year. To put it mildly. House renovations ate up huge chunks of time, graphic design work ate up huge chunks of time, the kids ate up huge chunks of time, and my poor husband had to make do with cranky pieces of left over crumbs of time scattered around the evening hours. There were never enough hours in the day, but let's face it, there never are! So stitchin' took a back seat, (grumbling and complaining as it did so) until I had a chance to just breathe again. In true Natashia Curtin style, I've been working away on several designs, I...

Figuring it all out!

Figuring it all out!

Hello! Well, it's been a long time between blog posts, as stuff has been happening! There's been the house renovation, which has included moving homes 3 times and a lot of decisions to be made that will affect the next 30 years of daily life. I've also had to move my office back home, due to my co-worker having to change her work circumstances, and been flat stack with graphic design work also. So this website change, which I started working on in February, or earlier, is finally complete. I still haven't finished- I've got to work out how the ordering process works...

Summer Stuff!

Sale! Have a scout around and find out what's on sale for summer! The weather is finally starting to behave itself, there's 3 weeks left of school, Christmas is just around the corner. But let's face it, the all important 'What will I stitch over holidays?' question is the issue most pressing! I've finished off a few projects recently, and so I've had to put some things on sale to make room in my office! Holiday times As I don't have a home office at present, it's going to be a little trickier than normal for me to get in...

Renovation Good Times

Renovation Good Times

Renovation woes are boring. Unless they are happening to you, and then you feel the overwhelming urge to tell EVERYONE about them! Short version: 6 weeks delay, about an extra $40K in costs and frustrations galore, but it's finally underway. Moral of the story: Get more than one Soil Report, OR vet your soil tester THOROUGHLY, as every other plan is based on this report. If you happen to get a dud one, it's a disaster. Luckily, our builder got a second opinion before starting, as he had concerns. This means our house, once built, should not all of a...

Headless Chook

'Here lies Natashia Curtin. She lived like a headless chicken'. I reckon that will be my tombstone. It seems to be the theme that runs through my life! To explain, no, there is too much, I will sum up: (Princess Bride movie quote.)   The long delayed (%^&*&%$$) home reno is finally kicking off this month. We are flat chat packing up and moving out. Not organisedly, but haphazardly... The children. Sports, Music, Mum's taxi service, food delivery and homework overseer. March- June on crazy huge job for a graphics client, which ate up all my spare time. At one...

It's getting Office-ial

It's getting Office-ial

Just when you didn't think I could get busier, I moved into an office space! Yep, that's right. I'm no longer a 'Home CEO' or whatever that patronising saying is- I've now joined the hoards of women rushing to drop the kiddies off at school and get to the office in time. However, I'm still a CEO. (I must remember to give myself a raise. I think I've got the lowest CEO salary in the history of the world.) As our house plans get closer and closer to renovation reality, I grabbed at the chance to share an office space...
